Are there free WordPress hosting options like there are for static sites?

Services like Netlify, Cloudflare Pages, Vercel, and GitHub Pages all offer great free hosting, but as far as I know, none of them support WordPress. Are there any free options for WordPress hosting? If not, what are the best affordable hosting options these days? It has been a while since I last looked into this.

There are some free WordPress hosting options, but most come with limitations like ads, slow speeds, or restrictions on plugins. If you’re just testing things, you could look into 000webhost or InfinityFree, but for anything serious, a paid host is better.

WordPress.com has a free tier, but it’s limited. You don’t get full control over plugins, and you have to use their subdomain. If you want a proper WordPress site, it’s worth paying for hosting.

If you just want to experiment with WordPress, you can set it up locally using Local by Flywheel or XAMPP. That way, you can test everything without needing a host.

Why use WordPress at all? There are plenty of CMS options that work well with free static hosting. You could try Prismic or Sanity and use Netlify for hosting.

I get that, but some people just prefer WordPress. If you do want WordPress hosting, I’ve had a good experience with GreenGeeks.

There are a few free options, but most have limitations. If you need something reliable, consider a low-cost shared hosting plan instead.

WordPress has a list of recommended hosts, but keep in mind that some of them have mixed reviews.

How did you find that so fast?

Just a quick search, nothing special. It’s all out there if you look.

Some of the recommended hosts, like Bluehost and DreamHost, aren’t the best. A lot of people have had issues with them.

@Nathan
Yeah, Bluehost used to be good, but they changed. Wouldn’t recommend them now.

A big issue with free hosting is SSL support. Many free hosts don’t offer it, and that leads to browser security warnings.

We just launched Pivotlar, a service to help people set up their own WordPress hosting. Right now, we have affordable plans, and we’re working on a lifetime deal for beta users.

I like WPEngine. It’s not free, but it comes with good customer support and daily backups, which makes managing a site much easier.

Not sure if that’s what the original post was asking for.

@Vinnie
Yeah, fair point. Just throwing it out there as an option.

If you want cheap hosting, HostKoala has plans for around $5 per year. It’s decent for the price. If you want something with cPanel, I’ve had good luck with ShockHosting. Their customer support is great.

I haven’t seen free hosting with a proper Linux/cPanel setup. GreenGeeks is a good low-cost option if that’s what you need.
