Best web hosting service for beginners/small business

I have been looking around on Google for the best WordPress web hosting service, but the answers have been inconsistent.

One thing I did learn is to steer clear of GoDaddy and any products from Newfold Digital.

To cut to the chase, I’m setting up a website for a small company that sells medical equipment. It will mainly have information and descriptions of their products, without needing ecommerce features.

I am new to this, so I am hoping to get some expert tips and advice on how to start on the web development path.

I recommend a managed WordPress hosting account with the LiteSpeed server. This provides you with a strong foundation upon which to build your website and content. About $20 is spent each month. You can update later if necessary. Your choice of website foundation is critical. Think about a reliable and lightning-fast WordPress theme. KH from the Sidebar Friends is what we utilize.

You have two options for hosting.

You can manage the WordPress server yourself or use a shared hosting service for WordPress. There is no need to go creative with self-hosting or using a static site as a novice.

The sidebar includes recommendations for managed WordPress hosting. I have advised people to utilize Dreamhost, which is on the list. There are so many hosting providers that it does not matter who you choose as a newbie because you will not notice the difference until you have a lot of traffic. But, yes, avoid GoDaddy and Bluehost.

Web Hosting for Informational Websites

Since your website focuses on information and product descriptions, you don’t need an e-commerce plan with features like shopping carts or product databases. A basic shared hosting plan with good customer support should be sufficient.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Host:

  1. Reputation and Reliability:
  • Choose established web hosting companies known for good uptime (minimal website downtime) and excellent customer service.
  1. Security Features:
  • Since your website deals with medical equipment, select a host that offers robust security features like firewalls and malware protection to safeguard your website and user data.
  1. Scalability:
  • Consider future growth. If you plan to add features or functionalities later, choose a host with upgradeable plans.
  1. Ease of Use:
  • If you’re new to web development, a user-friendly interface with drag-and-drop options or a one-click WordPress installation would be helpful.

Reputable Web Hosting Companies (Alternatives to GoDaddy/Newfold Digital):

  • SiteGround:
    • Known for good performance, security features, and a user-friendly interface.
  • Bluehost:
    • A popular choice with affordable plans and good customer support.
  • DreamHost:
    • Offers a user-friendly interface, good uptime, and various pricing plans.
  • A2 Hosting:
    • Known for its high-speed servers and focus on developer-friendly features.

Getting Started with Web Development:

  • WordPress Tutorials:
    • There are many free and paid WordPress tutorials online and on YouTube. These can guide you through the basics of setting up your website, installing themes, and adding content.
  • WordPress Codex:
    • The official WordPress documentation is a valuable resource, though it can be a bit technical for beginners.
  • Wistia:
    • Offers free and paid video courses on various website-related topics, including WordPress.

Additional Tips:

  • Free vs. Paid Themes:
    • WordPress offers free themes, but premium themes often come with more features and customization options.
  • Security Plugins:
    • Consider installing security plugins to add an extra layer of protection to your website.
  • Backups:
    • Regularly back up your website to avoid data loss in case of technical issues.

New to web hosting for a small medical equipment business (no online sales)? Try SiteGround, DreamHost, or Hostinger. They’re beginner-friendly and reliable. Web development can come later - focus on getting your site up first!
