I’m currently using a web host that’s not great and relying on LiteSpeed Cache and Cloudflare for my WordPress site’s performance. It’s working fine so far, but I’m considering switching to a better host since I’m getting around 10k viewers a day.
A lot of my visitors have suggested I start a forum, so I decided to go with Xenforo because it looks like the best option for me. However, I’m worried about how well shared hosting will handle the traffic. I’ve been managing my WordPress blog on shared hosting thanks to LiteSpeed Cache and Cloudflare, but I know I won’t be able to rely on those for a forum.
I tested Nixihost’s highest shared hosting tier, which offers 2 vCores and 2 GB of RAM, using loader.io. It worked great for WordPress with LiteSpeed Cache, but it couldn’t handle even 50 concurrent users on a Xenforo forum. I tried using the official Xenforo LiteSpeed Cache plugin, but there was no improvement.
I’m wondering if A2 Hosting would perform better since they supposedly offer double the resources. I don’t expect the forum to have as many visitors as my blog, but I want to make sure it can handle at least 50 concurrent users at the start.
Would a VPS like Hetzner be a better option? I’d need a server in Singapore, but it’s a bit pricey for me. Any advice on what specs would be suitable for my needs?

How busy are you expecting the forum to get? What’s your budget? Do you think you’ll have more guests than logged-in users?
I think I’ll have around 1,000 visitors per day at the start, with about 50 concurrent visitors during peak times. I expect to have more logged-in users since I already have some regular visitors who interact a lot.
I’m trying to keep the budget low because I don’t make much from the blog yet. Most of my visitors are from developing countries, and I haven’t monetized the site well. I’d like to keep it around $10-15, and I think Hetzner’s SG VPS might fit that range.
