Dedicated server options on Canada’s west coast?

Hi all,

I’m in need of a couple of large servers—specifically Dual Xeon, with 8TB SSD/NVMe storage, and 128-256GB RAM—for hosting on Canada’s west coast (BC or AB).

Any suggestions?

Edit: This setup will be used for virtual desktops, so low latency is important for the user experience. Thanks!

OVHcloud has data centers in eastern Canada, but depending on your needs, that might still work.

Thanks. Since we’ll have virtual desktops running, closer to the west coast would be preferable to reduce latency.

@Sophie
OVHcloud has a datacenter in Hillsboro in the US, though it’s not in Canada. You can see all their DC locations on their website.

If you’re looking for quality, Datapacket has a location in Vancouver, but it’s pricier than options like OVH. For more budget-friendly providers, check out OneProvider or GTHost, though I’d recommend researching them first since feedback varies.

You might find ideal latency from west coast US data centers in Seattle or Oregon, which are really close and could work well for you.

Do you know what the rules are around data transfer between the US and Canada? A while back, there was talk about needing to keep PII data in Canada.

Just a heads-up, avoid Bluehost. They have a terrible reputation.

Does it have to be in Canada for legal reasons, or would NW USA work? That would open up more options and the latency difference is minimal.

@Sophie
It depends on the industry. I’m not a lawyer, but to my knowledge, only healthcare has strict regulations in Canada about PII.

OVHCloud could be an option for you. They have data centers in Toronto and Beauharnois in Canada.
