Expired Web hosting (with cpanel) on Godaddy, did I lose everything?

Hi,

I recently transferred a domain from one GoDaddy account to mine, but I found out that the web hosting is not transferable. Fair enough. The hosting recently expired, and now I can’t log in to cPanel anymore, and I am panicking. Have I lost everything, or can I just repurchase the hosting and point my DNS records of the domain towards it again?

Don’t panic Zacky, You likely haven’t lost everything. While web hosting isn’t transferable between GoDaddy accounts, it’s good news that you transferred the domain itself. Repurchasing hosting on your account is totally fine. Your website files are most likely still on GoDaddy’s servers, just not accessible through the old cPanel. Once you get your new hosting set up, you can contact GoDaddy support and see if they can help migrate your website files (sometimes for a fee). If not, you can download the files yourself using an FTP client (File Transfer Protocol) and upload them to your new hosting. Then, update your domain’s DNS records to point to the new hosting, and voila! Your website should be back up and running. There are also tutorials online for both downloading website files and setting up DNS records.

It’s likely that if your GoDaddy hosting plan expires without being renewed, you will lose access to your website files, email accounts, databases, and other services associated with that hosting account. Most web hosts, including GoDaddy, have policies where they suspend or delete expired accounts after a certain grace period. This means your website would no longer be accessible online and you’d lose the ability to manage your hosting via cPanel. Emails sent to addresses on your expired domain would likely bounce as well. To avoid losing everything, I would recommend renewing your GoDaddy hosting plan as soon as possible if it has expired. If the grace period has passed and your account has been suspended or deleted, you may need to contact GoDaddy support to see if they can restore your account and data for a fee. In the future, setting up automatic renewals or getting renewal reminders can help prevent your hosting from lapsing. But in general, an expired GoDaddy hosting plan means losing access to your website, email, and other services until you renew.

Just open a new tab and contact GoDaddy support ASAP. Every second you wait risks your data. Once you open a ticket, come back and refresh this page.

Don’t stress out. Just log in to your GoDaddy account and purchase a new hosting plan. Make sure the hosting plan is compatible with the requirements of your website.

Relax. If you don’t have a backup, contact GoDaddy customer support immediately. Explain the situation and ask if they have a recent backup of your expired hosting account.

Yes, purchase a new hosting plan. Once you have purchased the new hosting plan, GoDaddy will provide you with the new hosting account details, including access to cPanel.
