HostGator is really messing up, anyone else agree?

All the major hosting providers are now part of Newfold Digital. They’re all the same, and not great.

Day One: “Hi Support, I messed up my site, can you reset it to how it was an hour ago?”

Day Three: “I added a plugin, and now my site’s down, can you restore it?”

Day TwentyFive: “My registration page got spammed, can you restore my site?”

Day ThirtySeven: “Decided I don’t want the subdomain with the forums. Can you reset it to Day Twenty?”

No wonder they charge $50 for restores.

Most of these could be handled by using snapshots in your control panel. WordPress can be reinstalled pretty quickly if you have backups, and most hosts offer free tools to manage this. For spam, cleaning the database is usually easy with some basic SQL.

I always tell people to install UpdraftPlus for WordPress backups. You can even set up a test version of your site on a subdomain to play around with before making big changes.

Exactly!

I only charge clients for real emergencies. If it’s just a quick restore, I don’t charge. It’s the right thing to do.

Way too much to charge! I’m with NixiHost, and they do free restores whenever needed.
