I’ve been with HostGator since 2013, but I moved my hosting account overnight because their prices got out of hand.
They changed the Hatchling plan to allow 10 websites, including subdomains, and limited storage to 10 GB for $172. When I signed up, it was around $65, and they kept matching that price until a few years back. I used to email the same rep every year to get the discount, but he hasn’t replied in ages.
Now, I’m getting double what they offer on another platform for $65/year with unlimited domains. I know I’m not the only one they’re doing this to. My advice: before signing up for any service, check how to export your data so you can quickly migrate if needed.
I’m not sure what their end game is, but if they’re trying to boost cash flow by squeezing loyal customers, it doesn’t look good for them.
Switching from one budget host to another isn’t always an upgrade. Prices have gone up everywhere over the past decade, so maybe it’s more than just HostGator.

$65/year for unlimited domains sounds too good to be true. I’d be careful – those sites might crash if you’re hosting more than a few with real traffic.
Seems like HostGator has forgotten their loyal customers. Subscription prices keep going up without much regard for loyalty. Moving was probably the right call.
