How much is web hosting per month?

This might seem like a random question, but I’m genuinely curious about the range small businesses are paying to maintain a web presence.

Web hosting is often overmarketed to small businesses. All you really need is a domain (around $10) and a hosting package, which typically costs $5-10 per month.

Install WordPress and a quality theme, and you’re set. However, if your site attracts significant traffic or requires more advanced features, you’ll need to scale up your hosting and resources accordingly.

Personally, I spend about $30 a year for a VPS in a local data center. My site gets around 2,300 hits a month, so a tiny 1-core VPS with static HTML/CSS is more than enough, leaving plenty of headroom.

I prefer having control and have the know-how to manage it, which keeps costs low. However, even if you’re not tech-savvy, platforms like Shopify can get you up and running at a reasonable price. Sometimes, it’s smarter to focus your time and energy where it really counts, rather than trying to save a few dollars each month.

If you own a business and don’t have a website, you’re making a big mistake.

I think it’s like 4 or 5 bucks? I pay for my domain privately, so it’s just hosting.

It depends on the hosting provider. Typically, it costs around $6-10 for a decent option, but there are many choices available based on your specific needs and the conveniences you require from the hosting provider.

As a techie, this setup isn’t a huge expense for me. I pay $50 a month for a server, $10 a year for my domain, and $180 annually for the necessary software. It took me about 15 hours to set everything up securely, and now I can host email, a website, storage, Kanban boards, office tools, and much more—all accessible through my domain.

I also offer hosting services to others, charging a monthly fee that includes a fully custom website and any productivity services a business might need.
