Is bluehost really that bad?

I came here looking for ideas on a good web hosting site after my WP site was down all day. I joined bluehost because I kept hearing it’s great for the price, but now I’m not so sure, or am I just rushing to judge?

Anyhow, would love some good WP hosting suggestions if you’ve got any.

Yes, just avoid them entirely.

And honestly, avoid all the brands shown here: Endurance International Group - Wikipedia

Exactly.

Just remember, they’re now called Newfold Digital.

@AnthonyRodriguez
Same poor service… just rebranded.

Totally agree! Avoid them if you can. Their customer service is terrible. I’ve been trying to get a simple issue resolved for over a week. Spoke to a supervisor who promised it was escalated…that was 5 days ago and still nothing. As soon as I get access, I’m moving my site out.

Run as far away as possible from Bluehost. By the time you realize how bad they are, it might be too late because their clunky software and poor support make it hard to get your data back.

Get your domain names from a separate company, and keep local backups of everything. Avoid all Newfold Digital brands.

Ugh, I built my site using their built-in WordPress tools, and it just disappeared. No backups.

Sorry to hear that. I hope things go better for you in the future and that you have backups now <3.

@Andrew
They’re asking $150 for a backup. I’ll just rebuild with a new host. At least it wasn’t a huge loss, only 5-6 hours of work, so maybe it’ll turn out better the second time around :slight_smile:

Glad it wasn’t a big loss. Definitely keep your own backups from now on. I’ve been with KnownHost a long time and love them, but I still back up to AWS.

I know someone who paid for Bluehost’s backup and they couldn’t even restore it fully. Useless.

@Andrew
Is KnownHost a good choice for beginners? I have a few self-built sites and also want to make one with WordPress.

Yes, they’re frequently recommended here on the forum.

@Andrew
I think I’ll switch to Hostinger just for my needs. I don’t need anything too fancy, and anything’s better than Bluehost right now. When I look around this forum, it seems like every service has mixed reviews.

@TurboTemplar
Not my first choice: https://www.thisforum.com/search/?q=hostinger%20scam

Yes, it’s that bad. I wouldn’t even recommend Bluehost to my worst enemy.

Bluehost is such a mess that a malware/firewall plugin cites it as its origin story. Not even kidding.

I’ve used SiteGround for years. It’s pricier after sign-up, but there’s no downtime, it’s fast, and free emails. Their support is solid too. Recently tried Hostinger for a project and liked their migration tools and UI, though they don’t have free email.

@Simon
Did you use Hostinger long? Thinking of them for a client. Aside from email costs, how was it overall?

I didn’t stay long, but I migrated a dozen sites there. Smooth process, and everything was up fast. The UI is clean and user-friendly. I don’t love Bluehost or GoDaddy, but for those needing extra help, GoDaddy has a support edge. Didn’t need Hostinger’s tech support much, but response time was good.

Most hosting companies raise prices after the initial period. SiteGround’s increases are high, but all the more reason to go for a longer-term plan if you can. Try the first year to get a feel, though.

It’s bad. Renewal is in a few weeks, and I won’t be sticking with them. I’ve been waiting 11 days for a restore.
