I’ve seen a lot of recommendations for Nixihost and Knownhost on this forum, so I’m considering those for web hosting. After reading through posts here, I feel like I can make a good choice.
Right now, I have 7 websites with Hostmonster. I need some help with the process of moving away from them. I know I should keep my domains and hosting separate, so I’m thinking about using Porkbun or Cloudflare for domain management. Do I move my domains first and then change hosting? Can I test out a new hosting company for a few months and switch if I don’t like it? I’m not super familiar with all the technical stuff, but I’ve been working on the front end of websites for a while.
If you can stick with Hostmonster a bit longer, I’d recommend setting up a new host for just one website to start with. Check out the performance, and if you’re happy, move the rest of your sites. You’ll have to pay for both hosts for a while, though.
Most hosting providers offer a refund policy, so if you’re not happy with the service, you can get your money back.
@aria That sounds like a good plan. I’m looking to transfer my domains away from the hosting provider first. I assume I can do that now and then point them to the new host when ready.
I haven’t used Nixihost or Knownhost, but I’m sure they’ll be better than Hostmonster. Hostmonster is owned by Newfold, and I avoid their brands.
Since you’re not too familiar with the technical side, I’d recommend Porkbun for your domains over Cloudflare. Cloudflare requires you to use their DNS, but with Porkbun, you can easily change the nameservers to point to your new host. You can move all your domains to Porkbun and switch hosting providers anytime by updating the nameservers.
@Washington Good to know! I’ve been with Hostmonster since 2007, and it’s not worth the cost anymore. Plus, their interface is terrible. Do you have any recommendations for hosting? I’ve only heard of Nixihost and Knownhost from this forum.
@Click I don’t use Hostmonster, but I’ve been with MddHosting for years and they’ve been great. You can try out a new hosting provider before moving all your sites.
