To Squarespace or not to Squarespace

Given the recent discussions around Squarespace and Google Domains, I have two questions.

Is there anything specifically bad about utilizing Squarespace as a domain registrar, other than the higher fees?

Is it true that your WHOIS information becomes public during the transfer if you move your domains from Google Domains to another suggested registrar such as Porkbun or Cloudflare or is there a way to keep it private throughout the transfer?

I’ve started moving to Porkbun for some of my more significant domains. I work at Squarespace and oversee more than forty websites there. I don’t think they’re very user-friendly for their domains, and I also think it’s far too pricey.

As the renewals for the remaining domains occur, I will move them out of Squarespace to avoid paying a hefty transfer fee all at once.

Using Squarespace as a domain registrar has the downside of higher fees and potentially less comprehensive domain management tools compared to specialized registrars. When transferring domains from Google Domains, your WHOIS information may become public unless you have privacy protection enabled. Most new registrars, like Porkbun or Cloudflare, offer WHOIS privacy services, so enabling this feature before completing the transfer can help keep your personal information private throughout the process.
