What is the best affordable Wordpress Host?

I am currently on Godaddy and build people’s websites there, but I see other options like Hostinger, Namecheap and Bluehost. All these youtube videos are all affiliates so I thought I’d ask on reddit. What is the best web host I can use for Wordpress as someone who builds sites as a side hussle. I want it to be affordable, however I NEED the websites to be fast. It would also be great if I can get a deal where I can build like 3-5 Wordpress sites on one subscription. If it’s possible to share the subscription with my friend that would be perfect!

I don’t need an insane amount of storage - I just build regular agency and simple local business websites.

Thanks!

If you demand performance, Platform InMotion (by the folks at InMotion Hosting) offers VPSes catered to WordPress. The server specs are maxed out yet affordable.

I use Cloudways for my ‘side hustle’ agency. It works flawlessly for me. You pay one price per month and get unlimited sites. They are super fast too. The interface is super clean. Support is always instant and helpful. All of my clients are on Wordpress. I can share an affiliate link if you want it.

Hi yes please!

This looks dope! Out of curiosity, which plan are you on and how many sites does that handle?

I started on the lowest plan with like 10 to 20 sites. I think I’m up to the $50 plan with almost 100 sites and it’s working great!

Cloudways.

Digital Ocean / Vultr / AWS / Azure. You can put Runcloud on top of it if you don’t want to deal with server stuff. I personally stay as far away from cPanel as possible.

Could you tell us why you avoid cPanel?

@Jesse
Expensive, bloated and full of security issues.

Get a Digital Ocean VPS and host it yourself.

I have a VPS with Host Gator but found the performance to not be great. Is Digital Ocean better?

Anything is better than Hostgator. DO, Linode, AWS, Azure, Vultr, they’re pretty much the same.

@Sawyer
Being kidnapped and violently violated with a pineapple is better than Hostgator.

How does AWS compare price wise?

Depends what AWS product you use. Lightsail is worth checking out if you’re new to VPS hosting - it’s a great way to learn how SSH, Apache, etc works. A 1GB server is USD $5pm, 2GB is $10, and so on.

The other option is AWS EC2, but I would not recommend that for a newbie.

I manage a fleet of servers from several providers (Linode, AWS, Vultr and my home server), and I use Runcloud.io to manage them all - rarely have to jump in to SSH any more, makes life very simple.

@Sawyer
Just built a WordPress Multisite on Lightsail, but somehow nuked it when I was trying to modify the xmlrpc.php file so that I can use third-party apps like Ulysses to publish directly from those writing apps. Something to do with the rate limit… do you know of any fixes for this? I’m having trouble finding a solution…

@Murray
What’s the specific problem/error? Never modify WP core files.

If you can handle command line work, NearlyFreeSpeech.net is a great option to consider.

Hustly is incredible if you are looking for a cheap good option with multiple websites. If price is not a concern, Rocket is excellent out of the box. Same price as WPEngine, but faster and less restrictive. Siteground used to be my go-to recommendation, but they’ve become expensive now. Others have caught up in performance.

Stay away from GoDaddy, Hostinger, and Bluehost—they’re terrible. Namecheap is good for domains, but hosting is cheap and lacks resources. Self-hosting with VPS is another option, but it requires more management.
