GoDaddy’s focus is marketing, not technology or support. They’re about getting people in the door, not keeping them happy.
Their ‘managed WordPress hosting’ is really just shared hosting with extra fees. They throttle disk I/O to 500kb/sec unless you pay extra, even though they advertise solid-state drives.
GoDaddy’s $5/month hosting cuts so many corners that it’s only good for the absolute basics. If your needs change at all, you’ll feel the limitations.
They’ve had a lot of controversies, from unethical advertising to supporting SOPA initially, which many saw as anti-Internet freedom. They’ve even been known to inflate domain prices after users search for them.
@Tyler
Good to know, thanks!
Years ago, I wrote this article comparing GoDaddy to other hosts, and the criticisms still hold up today. They’re just not a good choice for web hosting.
You might also look into NoFrillsCloud—they’re a managed host that uses servers from DO, Linode, and AWS. They’re great for those who outgrow SiteGround or want something with better value.
Of all the clients I support across many hosting platforms, SiteGround’s been the most reliable, especially compared to GoDaddy.
