A domain I would like to buy is about to expire in November. I am aware that there is no demand for the domain, so don’t anticipate it being snapped up. However, how can I be sure that when the domain expires, I can still obtain it?

I believe some companies use bots to snatch up expired domains and sit on them for a while to see if anybody buys, but they can tie them up for years doing this. In my experience, pretty much every domain I’ve registered got snapped up immediately when they expired and are now sitting with $5k+ price tags on them.
