I know, I know… another one of these posts, but I’m really at my wits’ end and need to switch from my current host (WHC), as I’m very dissatisfied with them. Here’s what I’m looking for:
Monthly Budget:
I’m aiming for the best value for my money, but I’m willing to go up to $15-20 per month if the services and support are solid.
Location:
Canada
Use Case:
Primarily email/CalDav, along with low-resource HTML/PHP hosting. I might eventually add a personal website with photography content, in an old-school style.
Traffic Volume:
No significant traffic right now—it’s essentially a glorified sandbox.
VPS Experience:
I’m not looking at VPSes for now.
Research:
I’ve checked out the recommended hosts, but none specifically cater to Canadian needs.
What I Need:
- IMAP/email migration tools are a must.
- cPanel is great, but I’m open to similar alternatives.
- A Canadian company is preferable, but Canadian servers are a necessity.
- I’m open to other suggestions as well.
A bit about me: I’ve had a personal web presence since the mid-90s. I own my domains and have been using the same email addresses from the start. So, in essence, I’m looking for a glorified email/calendar solution. However, I also enjoy having the flexibility to set up small web projects or sites occasionally, even if just for fun. I prefer not to self-host everything and like having some control over management, which is why I’m not leaning towards services like ProtonMail or Gmail.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I’ve seen a few suggestions here, but there seem to be a lot of conflicting opinions…
