I am in a bit of a confusing situation. I was moving a website from Squarespace to WordPress. The Squarespace site had its domain purchased through IONOS. During the transfer, I used a staging domain under my Bluehost account. I asked someone to move the site from the staging domain to the actual IONOS domain, but now I can’t find where the real website is.
I am not very knowledgeable about development or servers, and the person who helped me with the transfer isn’t responding to my calls. What should I do next?
Here are some steps you can take to locate where your website is currently hosted:
Use an Online Hosting Checker Tool:
Websites like Hosting Checker or Check Host can help you find out where your website is hosted. Simply enter your domain name, and these tools will provide details about the hosting provider, IP address, and server location.
Check Your Domain’s DNS Settings:
Log in to your IONOS account and check the DNS settings for your domain. Look for the A record, which should point to the IP address of your hosting server. This can give you a clue about where your site is hosted.
Contact Bluehost Support:
Since you used a staging domain under your Bluehost account, their support team might have records or logs that can help you trace where the site was moved.
Go to lookup.icann.org. In the search field, enter your domain name and click Lookup. In the results page, scroll down to Registrar Information. The registrar is usually your domain host.
