Dealing with WhatsApp and Call Spam After Publishing My Website

Sorry if this isn’t the right place to ask, but I couldn’t find a better sub.

I recently published my website and included my phone number as a contact. Almost immediately, I received a call from India and a WhatsApp message from someone in Pakistan on my WhatsApp business account, though I didn’t respond.

I’m based in Germany and planning to sell products through my website. I haven’t done any advertising, and the site isn’t ranked on Google yet, so I doubt these people are potential customers.

It feels like spam or a scam, but I’m puzzled by how quickly they contacted me. Is this a common issue when you publish a website with your phone number? What could their goal be?

Any insights or advice on how to handle this would be appreciated!

That is unfortunate. Did you choose private registration when you bought your domain? This feature hides your contact info. Just remember, you can only set it up during the domain checkout.

It is pretty common for people to crawl the web and collect phone numbers from websites, especially mobile numbers, to sell B2B products. The same thing happens with email addresses. If your site is public, it’s likely been crawled, and your phone number might have been scraped.
