Having trouble transferring my domain during web service migration, need advice

Our business has used a web building service for five years, which handled our website, email, hosting, and domain registration. We are now moving to a new service that also has a web builder but requires us to manage the domain, hosting, and email ourselves.

I signed up for a Cloudflare account, and I was told that all I needed to transfer the domain was the authorization code they sent me. However, when I tried to transfer the domain, it said I needed to add the website first. I did that, and now it’s asking me to update the nameservers?

Am I doing this correctly? Was the current domain holder supposed to do something first? Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

@LillyGrace Thank you! I actually already read that, but I’m confused because the other company said all I needed was the authorization code.

@roddy The transfer needs to happen first. Until then, the domain is still with the other registrar. The transfer will take about a week. Alternatively, you can set up an account with the current registrar and ask them to push the domain to you. Then, you’ll be able to update the nameservers immediately.

You need to change the nameservers to add your site to Cloudflare. Once that’s done, you should be able to transfer the domain.

@markkruger Thank you!

Did you mean Cloudshare or Cloudflare?

@Callista9 Cloudflare :woman_facepalming:
