How do i move my domain to another host?

Hi everyone, I wanted to know the best approach to transfer a domain to a new hosting provider because I am assisting a society with this and I have never done it before (I don’t want to make a mistake and have to wait 60 days to fix it). The site has been copied to the new host’s servers, where we already have hosting.

I wish to transfer the domain to a new host; the existing host registered it. The present host is attempting to use Nominet, the UK domain registrar, to transfer it to me. Will paying the £20 transfer fee for this transfer stop me from moving the domain to the new hosts?

Transferring a domain to a new hosting provider involves several steps. Here is a simple procedure that i used to do that.

  1. Confirm Contact Information:

    • Visit your domain registrar (where you bought the domain) and make sure your contact details are up to date.
    • If domain privacy is enabled, disable it temporarily.
  2. Unlock Your Domain:

    • Domains are usually locked to prevent accidental changes. Unlock your domain in your current registrar’s control panel.
  3. Get Authorization Code (EPP Code):

    • Request an authorization code (EPP code) from your current registrar. This code is necessary for the transfer.
  4. Choose a New Hosting Provider:

    • Set up an account with your new hosting provider. They will guide you through the transfer process.
  5. Initiate the Transfer:

    • In your new hosting account, start the domain transfer and provide the authorization code when prompted.
  6. Confirm and Pay:

    • Confirm the transfer details and pay any fees. The £20 transfer fee should not stop you from moving the domain to the new host.

No worries, transferring a domain doesn’t have to be scary!

  1. Unlock the domain at the current registrar (their website).
  2. Get a transfer authorization code (like a key) from them.
  3. Start the transfer at the new host using the code.
  4. Confirm emails from both registrars, wait 5-7 days.

The £20 fee is for using the UK domain transfer system, not a block to moving the domain.

@Adrian you can check this detailed process and in no time you will be done.

Regarding the transfer fee with Nominet, paying the fee should not stop you from moving the domain to the new hosts. The fee is typically for the transfer of the registrant’s details. However, once the domain is under your control, you should be able to initiate a transfer to another host without additional charges from Nominet

  1. Go to your domain and confirm your contact information. To begin, navigate to your domain name and check that your contact information is still accurate.
  2. Unlock your domain name.
  3. Initiate the domain transfer with your new web host.
  4. Authorize the domain transfer.
