Locked out of Cloudflare DNS… need help moving site?

I’m stuck with a problem and need some advice…

  1. We’re right in the middle of moving a website.
  2. DNS is managed by Cloudflare.
  3. Our domain is with GoDaddy.
  4. The person with Cloudflare access is unavailable.
  5. We’re dealing with email security issues and delays due to this.

We’re thinking of either:
A) Keep trying to reach the person with access, or
B) Moving DNS back to GoDaddy.

We need to decide fast to avoid more delays.

Questions:

  1. What risks should we think about if we switch from Cloudflare to GoDaddy for DNS?
  2. Can we reduce the risks during this move?
  3. Will this mess up our current website migration?
  4. Anything else we should watch out for?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

You can just create a new Cloudflare account and add the domain again. It should pull in the current DNS settings automatically.

Is there any reason to stay with Cloudflare? Wouldn’t it be cheaper for the client to move everything to GoDaddy since they already have the domain there?

@Malachi
Cloudflare is free to use. GoDaddy is a terrible service. Avoid it if you can.

Hey, doesn’t Cloudflare disable the domain in the old account if it sees the nameservers aren’t matching?

@Elliot
Yeah, that’s right.

@Elliot
Yes, I think they give you about a week before they do that.

If you decide to move DNS back to GoDaddy, just be ready for possible downtime. Make sure all the DNS records are moved over correctly so you don’t end up with broken emails or website issues. Keep your client in the loop about what’s happening so they know what to expect.
