Looking for a truly hands-off hosting solution

Finally getting my own domain. My needs are simple—2 or 3 websites (personal branding, a new consulting business, and a family reunion site). I could combine the first two if necessary. I know everyone dislikes a certain big-name host, so I’m looking for a solid alternative that’s low-maintenance and user-friendly—even for the aunties!

Most important to me:

  • Reliable email
  • Easy website design and updates
  • Simple plugin management (invoices, appointments, file uploads for family, etc.)
  • Security & SSL handled automatically—I don’t want to install or manage it manually

My plan so far: Porkbun for domains, Zoho or Proton for email, and…??

I see warnings about multi-year hosting deals, but if I pay <$100 for 2 years and decide to leave after 1, is that really a problem?

I can’t tell if I’m overthinking this or missing something important.

Budget: $10–$15 per month

Users: Mostly US, east coast

Hosting Needs: Leaning toward WordPress but open to alternatives

Traffic: Very low (<300/month, mostly seasonal for family reunion stuff)

The best deals are usually in those two-year plans, but always check the fine print. $15/month is reasonable for 3 sites and should give you room to grow.

I found a deal for 2 years at $95 (which seems ridiculously cheap) but renews at $14/month after that.

Let me make sure they don’t have a way to hold my domain hostage!

@Russell
NEVER host your domain with your web host (unless you are your own registrar).

Also, never use your web hosting provider for email. That’s another bad idea.

@Russell
Sounds like I’m on the right path then!
