Migrating Domain Off Hostgator Pain Level?

After almost two years of using HostGator to host my website, I am not too pleased with the controls and tools they offer. After looking at AWS, Rackspace, GoDaddy, and the suggested hosts in the r/webhosting/ sidebar, I must say that there are superior hosts out there that offer me more technological options and control. For instance: Django, Drupal, Ruby on Rails, etc. How hard is it to transfer my domain from HostGator to a different hosting company? is what worries me. HostGator will undoubtedly fight back to protect its revenue, but will it deter people by making things too difficult?

It’s actually quite easy, just the standard process you’d expect when transferring a domain from one registrar to another. The only thing worth mentioning is that there’s a specific time frame of 2 or 3 days for them to fulfill your request. Last time, they waited until the very last minute to unlock my domain, but technically they’re allowed to do it that way, so I don’t see it as a negative thing.
