Edit: I’m in Canada, not sure if that makes a difference.
I just bought a domain through Google Workspaces, and they gave me Privacy Protection for free to keep my info private on the WHOIS database.
Since Google doesn’t offer web hosting, I looked at BlueHost to link my domain/site. There’s a checkbox asking if I want to add an extra layer of privacy for $16.18/year.
But Google already keeps my info private. If I don’t check that box, will it change anything? Can they override Google’s settings?
Bonus Question: I’m not really planning to use the site yet, just want a custom business email linked to Gmail through Workspaces. Is there a better or cheaper host than BlueHost for this purpose? Thanks!
BlueHost thinks your domain is hosted with them and is trying to upsell a service most other domain providers give for free. Says a lot about their quality.
In the world of cheap hosting, everyone’s advice will be biased, but generally, I wouldn’t recommend BlueHost.

Yeah, you just need to register the domain and point the MX records to Google (or whichever email provider you’re using). Also, set up DKIM and SPF records to reduce spam issues.
I wish I knew about this forum before signing up with BlueHost. Their cPanel is so confusing. I switched to NixiHost and it’s so much simpler. Great support too.
I’ve been with BlueHost since 2008, and I’m still with them just because I’m too lazy to move my stuff. Their email service is solid, which is why I stay. But if I had to start over, I’d probably go with Google or Microsoft for email hosting and handle the rest myself.
