My family member is moving their domain and website hosting from iPage to Wix. The challenge is that they use their domain email for important stuff like mortgage communications and would prefer not to change to a different email provider.
iPage currently uses Roundcube for email, and Wix will switch them to Google Workspace. Is it possible to move all their existing emails to Google Workspace, or should I upgrade to Google Workspace on iPage first and then do the migration?
I know some folks might mention domain registrars, but neither I nor my family member have much experience with that, and they don’t want to pay for extra help. Any advice on this?
You can use Google’s migration tool to move emails from iPage’s IMAP server to Google Workspace. It’s pretty simple: you just enter the IMAP server info, email address, and password, and let it do its thing. It usually takes a few hours to complete.
Check out Google’s document on how to transfer emails with the migration tool. It gives step-by-step guidance for using the tool with iPage’s IMAP settings.
Upgrading iPage email to Google Workspace first can make the transfer smoother, allowing you to migrate emails without much hassle. Once the account is upgraded, you’ll be able to move everything to the new Google Workspace on Wix and keep the emails organized.
Another way is to copy all the emails to a temporary Gmail account by using an email client like Airmail or Apple Mail. This can serve as a backup if needed.
If you want to keep all past emails, set up Google Workspace on Wix first. Then, use Google’s migration tool to bring over emails from iPage’s Roundcube. Keep the iPage email active during this process. Finally, update MX records on iPage to send new emails to Google Workspace on Wix, so they won’t miss anything.
