Switching from WP-Engine to SiteGround … Advice?

Looking for some tips here!

We’re moving our website hosting from WP-Engine to SiteGround. I’m the operations manager, so my understanding of websites is pretty basic. What should we check to make sure the migration goes smoothly and everything’s working as it should?

Honestly, that sounds like you’re just trading one set of issues for another lol.

Haha, true!

I’d say start by reaching out to SiteGround directly—they usually handle migration for their users (my company does too). Once it’s done, check disk usage; it should be about the same as your old host if all files migrated correctly.

Agree with this!

SiteGround was top-notch about 10 years ago. I was with them for a while, but over time, their service quality dropped, especially support.

Use a plugin like Redirection to catch any 404 errors after migrating. If files didn’t migrate, it’ll help you spot them.

Make sure to download a full backup of your site before moving, just to be safe.

If your website is critical, think about hiring a local company to handle the migration, even if it costs extra. They’ll be more accountable. Plus, you avoid any minimal effort that free migration offers might provide. Keep the old hosting active for a month just in case you need to switch back.

SiteGround has fans and critics. They’re reliable, but watch for that renewal cost increase! After switching, ensure your domain points to the new DNS and that SSL works. Test key site functions like forms and shopping carts, and compare load times before and after. Double-check that any email addresses tied to your domain work post-move. That covers the basics. Good luck!

I’m planning to check out ScalaHosting when I can. Looks affordable and comes recommended by a lot of CMS folks.

Honestly, SiteGround isn’t an upgrade from WPE. Just putting it out there.

SiteGround used to be good, but now they charge to use support chat, so I can’t really recommend them anymore.

I’d avoid SiteGround. Look into Rocket.net instead.

If you’re into a solid VPS option, check out ploi.io or runcloud.io, and choose the cloud server that works for you.

Make sure you’re picking a decent host—it really matters.
